Cory Booker and Megan O'Rourke win Warren County Nominations

3/22/2026

Megan O'Rourke, who was raised in who was raised in Blairstown, is in NJ's 7th Congressional District, and lives in the district, very close to Warren County, was endorsed by the county's Democrats for the Democratic Primary for the district at their nominating convention, yesterday.

O'Rourke is a climate scientist and former USDA official.

O’Rourke beat Brian Varela by 16 votes to 14 in a runoff at the Democrats’ convention. In the first round of voting, Varela received 13 votes while O’Rourke received 10, Rebecca Bennett 7, Tina Shah 2, and Michael Roth and Beth Adubato each received 0.

In this six-way race, none of O'Rourke's opponents have significant ties to the county. The winner of the primary will challenge incumbent Rep. Tom Kean Jr. (R-Westfield).

The county party also endorsed Senator Cory Booker, who has two little-known primary challengers, on a voice vote.
